Student Board
About the Board
The Student Board of Directors is made up of student representatives from all across the state who want to create, support, and participate in a variety of Indiana Science Olympiad initiatives. The board is established to allow students to have a voice in the initiatives and decisions that would directly impact the state’s youth.
Student Board Structure
The Student Board will be structured as follows:
- Student Board Advisors (INSO board members Jamie Lies)
- _7__ High School representatives (anyone with 2 years in SO)
- _3__ 8th Grade representatives (you need 2 years in SO)
Candidate Requirements
A Student Board candidate must be a student who embraces the INSO values, is hardworking, and wants to make a difference in the Indiana Science Olympiad. Candidates must have been on Science Olympiad for two years and be an 8th to 12th-grade student and actively participating in an Indiana Science Olympiad team.
Student Board Expectations
The Student Board is expected to:
- Embody the INSO values
- Support their fellow board members and their committees
- Attend board meetings
- Participate on at least one committee
- Act as a voice for the SO student population
- Assist with presentation of awards at Invitationals, Regionals, and/or State
- Assist in social media contributions (online games, contests, activities, photo journals, etc.)
- Promote Science Olympiad on social media through official youth board postings
- Represent the SO as youth ambassadors at various outreach and marketing programs throughout the year
Board Application Requirements
- Have two years of Science Olympiad experience as an active member.
- Must be in 8th – 12th grades to be eligible
- Must complete and submit the entire Application posted above.
- Middle School and High School students must submit TWO recommendation letters. One Science Olympiad related letter and one NON-Science Olympiad related letter.
*Deadline to turn in applications is November 1, 2026
Time commitment
- Zoom/online meetings 1-2 times a month starting in January
- If attending a competition we would love to have you promoted as a student board member and assist at the competition as able.
